Dominican University invites applications for its first Chief Diversity Officer (CDO), a senior level position reporting to the President. The CDO works collaboratively with stakeholders who are committed to a culture of shared governance in advancing the university’s mission and strategic goals related to diversity, equity and inclusion. A university-wide committee structure is in place to support the important work of moving the campus community through the challenges and opportunities of cultural change. Dominican University is a comprehensive, Catholic university of 3500 students, one of three private universities in Illinois designated as a Hispanic serving institution. All members of the academic community support the university’s mission to prepare students to pursue truth, to give compassionate service and to participate in the creation of a more just and human world. Ensuring the creation of an open, relationship-centered climate while establishing the policies, procedures and programs that promote diversity and enhance the recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff from under-represented groups are equally essential to the fulfillment of that mission. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of experience and creative leadership in advancing diversity in a higher education environment. She/he will demonstrate an understanding of equal opportunity, non-discrimination and affirmative action policies and best practices, and the ability to use institutional data to monitor, evaluate and improve program effectiveness. The successful candidate will have an excellent track record of managing change and will be capable of enhancing existing relationships, facilitating new connections, and building lasting partnerships. Strong listening, interpersonal and oral and written communication skills are required, as well as a record of integrity and good judgment.
