Rice University and the Association of Rice Alumni seek a chief alumni relations officer to serve as the university’s next Assistant Vice President, Alumni Relations and Executive Director, Association of Rice Alumni (AVP/ED). Rice University, located in Houston Texas, enrolls approximately 3,600 undergraduates and 2,500 graduate students. Rice students have unparalleled opportunities to learn from distinguished faculty through classroom interaction and research collaboration — students experience the distinctive advantages of a liberal arts college, including small classes and a low faculty-to-student ratio, with the faculty, resources and facilities of a premier research university. Reporting to the Vice President for Resource Development and serving as a member of his leadership staff, the Assistant Vice President, Alumni Relations & Executive Director, Association of Rice Alumni will benefit from a strategic plan crafted to align the interests and ambitions of Rice University with those of its alumni. Working in close concert with strategic partners across the university and beyond – including the university’s colleges and schools, and its athletics department – the AVP/ED will lead the institution’s 48,000 alumni in support of the university’s considerable aspirations and in building a strong and supportive community among the university’s external constituents. The AVP/ED will be a leader of people and programs with significant and successful experience in alumni relations, advancement, or an analogous organization. Prior and progressively more responsible experience in a managerial position within higher education is highly preferred. Absolutely required are the exceptional communications and relationship-building skills of the superior advancement professional. The AVP/ED will be data-driven, understanding the deliverables expected by alumni and university alike and holding himself or herself, the staff, and the volunteers of the association accountable for a significant return on investment. In return, the AVP/ED will work with one of the nation’s most progressive universities, will lead and work in concert with an outstanding and loyal alumni body, and will reside in one of the nation’s most livable and enjoyable communities. Above all, he or she will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to a university very much on the move. For more information on this opportunity, including a full position specification, please visit www.wittkieffer.com. Recruitment will continue until the position is filled. Nominations, expressions of interest, and applications (including a cover letter and resume) should be submitted to Witt/Kieffer consultants Jon Derek Croteau Ed.D. and Mercedes Vance at RiceChiefAlum@wittkieffer.com. Rice University is an EEO/AA employer.
