Salary
RSCCD has one of the highest faculty salary schedules among California’s 72 community college districts. New faculty may be placed as high as step 11 on the salary schedule based upon verified teaching/work experience.
The starting salary may range from $53,554.86 to $90,579.07/year for the 10-month academic year, depending upon education and experience. Additional compensation is provided for work beyond the basic teaching contract.

Benefits
The district will contribute up to $23,472.84 per year toward the medical/dental insurance expense for the employee and any eligible dependents, plus $1,250 per year for additional fringe benefit expenses, life insurance coverage of $50,000 or the employee’s annual salary, whichever is greater and ten days of sick leave per year. Membership in the California State Teachers’ Retirement System.

Responsibilities
Teach combination of Human Development lecture and lab classes which may include evening or off-campus assignments. Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress. Day-to-day operations include assisting students toward successful program completion and fostering student achievement. Collaborate with an advisory committee of industry professionals to review programs that results in developing and maintaining curriculum that meets current industry standards. Be familiar with and observe administrative regulations. Other responsibilities include assisting with course scheduling, course outline maintenance, grant writing, maintaining office hours, and coordination of department events. Manage student learning outcomes assessment such that the results of the assessment lead to meaningful instructional development. Assignment includes recruiting students for the Human Development Program by establishing relationships with area high school teachers and appropriate community organizations. Assumes committee responsibilities as required.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
(Applicants must meet one of the following):
• Possess from an accredited institution: A Master's degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education OR bachelor's degree in any of the above AND master's degree in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies, OR
• Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing service in the discipline, OR
•  The equivalent (applicants who do not meet the above minimum qualifications must complete the Equivalencies Section in the application form and provide conclusive evidence of such).

Equivalency Statement:
The Rancho Santiago Community College District in its desire to select outstanding faculty members from the largest possible pool of qualified applicants, recognizes the fact that candidates may attain expertise in discipline through a variety of means. Certain combinations of education, experience and other accomplishments in the field may be judged by the District as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for this position. Candidates who feel they possess such equivalent qualifications are encouraged to apply and provide appropriate documentation of their qualifications.

These equivalencies may include:
•  Doctorate in Education, Educational Leadership, Psychology or Sociology with:
o at least 15 graduate units in Child Development/Early Childhood Education, OR
o 5 years experience in the Early Childhood Education field, OR

• A Master's/Doctorate in Counseling with a concentration in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling/Therapy, OR

• A Master's/Doctorate in Family Life Studies, Life Management, or Family and Consumer Studies.

Desirable Qualifications
• Have at least three years of experience with young children and their families as a teacher, director, supervisor, or trainer in a
child development program or agency serving children and families.
• Two years of community college-level teaching experience.
• Master's degree or higher in child development, human development, or early childhood education.
• Ability to integrate computer technology in the classroom and to use technology to offer instruction through distance delivery modes, as appropriate and if required.
• Involvement in professional organizations related to children and families and/or advocacy for children and families.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) and biliterate.
• Evidence of knowledge of: Americans with Disabilities Act, Title XXII Licensing Regulations, Child Development Permit and Credentialing requirements, current trends and practices in Early Childhood Education including: issues of diversity, multicultural childrearing practices, developmentally appropriate curriculum, children with special needs, and the use of technology in the early childhood classroom.
• Experience in teaching students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and widely varying levels of proficiency preferred.
• A working knowledge of and experience with student learning outcomes and assessment.

Based upon the information presented on the application materials, a limited number of candidates with qualifications most pertinent to the position will be invited to participate in the selection process, which may include a written test and oral interview.

Interview
Applicants selected for an interview may be required to take additional tests or assessments and will be notified of such prior to the date of the interview. During the oral session, those selected for interviews, in addition to the above, may be evaluated on the following factors:
• Oral communication skills
•  Presentation
• Problem solving skills
• Successful teaching, problem solving or performance demonstration
• Writing skills/demonstration
