Allegheny College, a selective liberal arts college located in northwestern Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Regional Advancement Officer. This position will be responsible for raising major gifts that supports the mission of the College from alumni and friends in the Midwest territory. The College’s Division of Development and Alumni Affairs has experienced considerable success. We now wish to take another significant step forward in preparation for unparalleled opportunities which will be presented by the College’s upcoming bicentennial anniversary. Allegheny’s Regional Advancement Officers are deployed geographically. Charged with dramatically increasing both the quality and size of the College's prospect pool, the Regional Advancement Officer will play a key role in the overall growth of private philanthropy at the College. S/he will manage a portfolio of approximately 150 qualified prospects and make a minimum of 175 face-to-face visits per year. The successful candidate will possess a successful track record in individual major gift or high-end annual gift fundraising, preferably in higher education. A broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising and the ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle are necessary. Individuals who have worked in a regionally assigned development office and who have a passion for working "on the road" are preferred. Candidates must have earned a Bachelor's degree and have five or more years of responsible, professional, non-profit fundraising (or related) experience. They must possess superior listening skills, strong oral and written communication skills, sophisticated interpersonal and relationship-building skills, and be literate in standard office software. Other essential qualifications include initiative and motivation. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are critical. Significant travel and some weekend and evening responsibilities are required. Candidates must be committed to liberal arts education and to meeting challenging goals. They must be capable of making significant, professional contributions to a happy and experienced team. Preference may be given to qualified Allegheny College alumni.
