DIRECTOR OF ASSESSMENT AND EDUCATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS Internationally renowned for leadership and innovation in chiropractic training, Life Chiropractic College West (LCCW) is currently seeking a full-time Director of Assessment and Educational Effectiveness (DAEE) to join our team. Reports to: Vice President, Academic Affairs Position Class: Exempt VISION Develop and employ assessment strategies and tools to support creation of an inspiring learning environment that prepares our students to be prepared for successful real-world practice. PURPOSE Reporting to the Vice President, Academic Affairs (VPAA), the DAEE is responsible for assisting faculty and other associates in developing and sustaining a culture of assessment that facilitates achievement of student learning outcomes at LCCW. Incumbent will provide one-on-one and group guidance, tools, resources and support to enhance instructional effectiveness and student learning. Will encourage innovation, value scholarly discourse and strive to create a community of educators whose focus is on excellence in the learning, teaching and assessment processes. Will work closely with the Director of Institutional Research (DIR) to ensure campuswide academic assessment (both student and programmatic) occurs in a systematic manner. Provides leadership in the continued development and refinement of the College’s annual planning in support of the strategic plan and with the assessment planning processes. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Assists the VPAA in his/her duties as needed and assigned. 2. Creates and implements a systematic plan for ensuring that the LCCW community improves its competence in assessment activities, most notably in the use of evidence-based decision making leading to positive change. 3. Working with academic and clinical administrators, coordinate assessment activities and systems for the College. a. Assists departments in routine course and instructional observations, providing feedback to department chairs and the VPAA where a lack of alignment is observed. These observations include syllabi review, signature assessments and online companion use. b. Coordinates and updates assessment content across multiple programs. 4. Develop uniform assessment instruments across the college including; design, delivery, data collection and feedback for improvement. 5. Work with institutional research to ensure that data collected is returned to inform academic, clinical and all other College processes, procedures and planning. Works closely with the DIR to manage data and training on the College’s Learning Outcome Management System and reports on attainment or gaps of outcomes by analysis of data and assessments. 6. Work with College administration and faculty in the development and measurement of programmatic and institutional outcomes. 7. Work with faculty and departments in the development and measurement of department and course outcomes. 8. Works with department chairs and others to help create and support areas of expertise across campus related to assessment of student learning outcomes. With department chairs and the VPAA, determines intervention plans for instructors or courses that may require assistance. 9. Oversees the Student Success Program a. Assess current program b. Develop program as a functioning “learning community” for the pre-clinical program c. Gather data on ongoing basis and report program outcomes internally and externally 10. Assist in the regular reporting of the College, monthly to the president and as required to outside agencies. 11. Maintain catalog of assessment tools/instruments and the associated data. 12. Train faculty in effective student assessment including: understanding of student assessment, assessment tools/instruments and pedagogies. 13. Train faculty in the use of data to improve student learning. 14. Participate in self-studies and other accreditation report writing and development. 15. Serve on Academic Planning Group, Faculty Development Committee and Strategic Planning Committee. 16. Participation in educational conference/s. ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Report monthly on department activities 2. Assist VPAA with development and management of department budget REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and/or Experience 1. Master’s Degree in Education (MSEd), Doctorate preferred 2. Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience focusing on higher education. 3. Extensive knowledge of creating, implementing and measuring student learning outcomes at the institutional, programmatic and course levels. 4. Extensive knowledge of adult learning theory, pedagogical approaches and assessment processes. 5. Understanding of higher education and regulatory issues. 6. Knowledge of regional accrediting standards, especially as they apply to assessment and continuous improvement. 7. Knowledgeable with computers, instructional technologies and database schemas, especially as relates to outcome and assessment hierarchies.
