GENERAL DUTIES

Oversees implementation of communications programs and produces communications in all media to meet a variety of College needs

- Provides creative direction for publications and marketing materials, such as catalogs, annual reports, brochures, direct mail packages, print advertising and other marketing materials

- Works with College clientele (faculty, administrators, and student representatives) to understand their communications objectives, select appropriate messages, formats, and distribution methods, set production timelines, and establish appropriate editorial and design approaches

- Provides creative direction and supervision to external and/or internal creative resources such as writers, photographers, illustrators and graphic designers

- Ensures consistent application of standards and guidelines for College materials, such as graphic identity standards

- Manages production activities, including creating printing specifications and arranging procurement of services, managing work flows, and production schedules, and assuring a quality finished product

- Prepares sensitive and high-priority communications such as speeches for use by senior management

- Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Communications Publications Editorial Manager reports directly to the Special Assistant to the President and performs a wide range of activities to support the mission of New York City College of Technology, including writing and preparing written material on a variety of topics covering students, alumni, faculty, campus facilities, academic programs, and/or events.

In addition, the Communications Manager will, with considerable latitude for independent decisions:
- Write and produce web and publication features, news releases, speeches, and scripts for campus events, brochures, programs, and other web/print assignments.
- Manage college social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, and special blogs.
- Manage the development, overall integrity, and voice of the editorial content of the City Tech website.
- Manage content for the online calendar of events.
- Assist in management of content audits of college web pages.
- Play an active role in the development and execution of a communications strategy for the College.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

- Must be able to write quickly and effectively for a wide range of platforms, from news releases to college brochures to web copy
- Ability to interact easily and comfortably with faculty essential
- Understanding of the role of research and the issues in higher education useful
- Some experience with writing for social media a significant plus
- Ability to write advertising copy useful
- Knowledge of grant-writing and other writing in support of fund raising extremely helpful
- Although it is not a regular part of the position, some flexibility in time is necessary to allow occasional coverage of evening events

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
