Position Summary: As part of Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) and the Greening Michigan Institute (GMI), this position provides leadership and educational programming expertise in alignment with designated GMI workgroups, with special focus on program delivery related to community development in Calhoun County. This position may collaborate across work groups, Institutes and community groups and work with faculty, specialists and educators for advancement of the needs of the Institute clientele; assists in designing, implementing, evaluating and reporting results of programming; ensures dissemination of research-based information through various methods; and serves as an informational resource for Extension Personnel and clientele.

Key Responsibilities:
- Create a broad understanding of public policy and land use issues beyond individual communities;
- Assist local government in building fundamental skills in public policy, governance, land use processes and procedures, and an understanding of regional economic development;
- Assist communities in adopting strategies for design, sustainability, and energy efficiency and to access federal funding for appropriate implementation;
- Improve community prosperity and sustainability through public policy and land use activities;
- Better prepare for linkages to the global economy through sub-regional and regional economic, asset-based plans;
- Provide leadership and assist others in planning, developing, evaluating, reporting, and executing programming in alignment with GMI and MSU Extension program goals and objectives;
- Develop and administer a comprehensive program to manage and promote County parks facilities and programs;
- Responsible for overall planning, development and implementation of projects and programs supporting the Community Development (CD) Department;
- Plan, oversee and supervise county-based CD Department projects such as parks and recreation planning, improvement, and development including working with contractors, departmental staff, and others;
- Prepare grant proposals and applications with various federal, state and local public and private agencies as may be required for parks, tourism and economic development;
- administer MSUE, county, and collaborative CD grants through closure;
- Work with governmental commissions and committees to establish goals and objectives of the CD Department;
- develop policies and programs to assist in directing operations and attaining objectives;
- Maintain relationships and coordinate CD projects with State and local agencies and other County Departments ;
- Assist in the development, review and update of long Range CD plans such as the comprehensive County and Parks and Recreation Master Plans;
- Work with statewide GMI workgroups to effectively plan and implement Extension programming, with an emphasis on delivery and coordination in Calhoun County;
- Prepare and submit monthly reports on programming activities and achievements;
- Prepare and publish Extension bulletins, news articles, and electronic communications that provide valuable information and assistance to Michigan residents;
- Responsible for planning and management of personal operating budgets within the MSUE/GMI budget frameworks;
- Participate in professional development opportunities for continual improvement of leadership, administration and management, and programming skills and capacities;
- Work to ensure that community needs assessments and program development efforts include the engagement of Michigan's diverse residents across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities and other differences;
- Understand and implement Civil Rights policies and procedures.

Support Staff: Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in Extension Education, Planning, or a related field deemed essential to successfully carrying out the assigned GMI workgroup agenda, must be earned by date of hire;
- 3-years' experience in Extension Education or related field(s)(relevant experience acquired within the last 5-years preferred);
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
- Demonstrated leadership abilities;
- Familiarity and competence in use of technology for program delivery, record keeping and reporting, and team-based communications;
- Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members to assist with program development and outreach;
- Willingness and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards;
- Ability to regularly travel within the assigned area and surrounding communities, as well as occasional travel outside the assigned area in order to perform duties of this position;
- Ability to carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
