Job Description Summary

Works with faculty on the instructional design process and manages course design projects, including online, blended, web-enhanced, and traditional learning environments. Works closely with faculty for one-on-one consultations to support them in designing courses and course materials. Provides assistance to faculty in the pedagogical understanding of effective course and curriculum design for technology-enabled learning and supports institutional efforts for increasing quality course design for all delivery modes. Collaborates on college-wide course and curriculum design initiatives to enhance and expand learning in range of delivery modalities.

Job Responsibilities

•Applies relevant instructional design models to the design and development of online, blended, web-enhanced, and traditional learning environments.
•Provides consultation to faculty to support the design and development of quality course materials, learning objects, and courses for various modalities
•Serves as a resource and provides guidance to faculty in the development/revision of outcomes-based curriculum and assessments
•Collaborates with Faculty Development to support faculty orientations to eLearning, including lessons, learning objects, and asynchronous and synchronous activities
•Conducts workshops for faculty related to effective technical and traditional teaching strategies that support and promote quality course design
•Continuously explores new course design strategies and technologies that could be used by the College to support the design and development of online and hybrid courses and collaborates with appropriate departments to incorporate them into the online course design/development process
•Conducts needs assessment and usability analyses, and develops metrics to evaluate course design impact and success
•Provides consultation to individuals and small groups related to instructional design, course design and other projects
•Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•Master's Degree
•Minimum of 3 years' experience designing and developing of technology-enabled instructional experiences, including online, blended, and web-enhanced courses
•Minimum one year experience working with Blackboard of other course management systems (i.e. Moodle, Desire to Learn, and Sakai)
•Minimum of one year experience working with curriculum and assessment
•Minimum one year facilitating online or face-to-face workshops

•Demonstrated knowledge and application of instructional design theory, instructional design principles, learning theory, instructional technology, and adult learning theory
•Demonstrated experience creating successful online courses
•Demonstrated ability to develop effective instruction for several different pedagogical orientations
•Demonstrated success in utilizing technology to enhance and expand learning
•Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
•Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications

(Or equivalent job-related experience providing the necessary knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform the functions of this position proficiently)

• Master's or Doctorate degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Instructional Systems, Distance Learning, eLearning, Adult Learning and Development, or related field
• Experience managing direct reports and/or projects
• Proven experience supporting faculty in the design and development of technology-enabled courses in a higher education environment
• Experience applying the Quality Matters rubric and Standards to online and blended design
• Experience developing and managing course design/development budget, including the oversight and management of either outsourced resources or in-house personnel

• Experience with Adobe Connect, Respondus, StudyMate, Captivate, Techsmith products (Jing, Snagit), Adobe Presenter, and/or other synchronous and asynchronous online learning development tools
• Experience with Massively Open Online courses and other new models of instruction
• Experience with Blackboard 9.1
• Experience working in a virtual environment or multi-campus environment
• Understanding of Web 2.0 technologies and their application to course development
• Experience with Open Educational Resources, both content-based and technology-based
• Proven experience working with faculty on course design and development for distance learning programs/courses in a higher education environmentProven experience managing successful projects using external vendors or consultants

Work Schedule

8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday: May require some evening and/or weekends.
