Job Duties
  • Responsible for providing supervision to staff, training and evaluating progress of Senior Student Financial Assistance Counselors. Responsible for thorough knowledge of all aspects of aid with specific understanding to act as resident expert on a particular subject matter in order to share with others in OFSA.

  • Provides information to students/parents on all student financial assistance programs and counsel them on the eligibility, funding requirements, responsibilities, and alternatives of assigned aid programs, including federal regulations and available lenders.

  • Explains the factors used in creating a student’s cost of attendance and which funds can be used to cover direct cost to GW and which funding can be used for indirect cost.

  • Reviews student’s application/materials to be sure all is properly completed (including screening to determine visa status, verify admission or enrollment status, and completion of forms, etc.). Contacts students to request additional documentation or explain financial aid decisions.

  • Addresses questions not related to financial aid, especially with graduate students, so student receives correct information or is directed to the appropriate office.

  • Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
