El Camino College Instructor - Spanish Close Date: 03/04/2014 To access the on-line application please visit: Principal teaching assignment in elementary, intermediate, advanced and/or conversational Spanish language courses. Forty-hour faculty workweek to include fifteen lecture hours teaching, office hours, faculty meetings, student activities, preparation/research, and other curriculum- and program-related activities. A commitment to consistent participation on department, division, and college committees is expected. Applicants must be available for screening and final interviews and must present a brief teaching demonstration and complete a short writing assignment in Spanish. Required Qualifications: • Master's degree in Spanish; OR • Bachelor's degree in Spanish AND Master's in another language or linguistics; OR • The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR • Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students and of individuals with disabilities. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Master's degree in Spanish. • Native or near-native fluency in the Spanish language. • Recent college-level teaching experience. • Familiarity with current foreign language teaching strategies, methods, and materials. • Academic preparation in the culture and society of the language being taught. • Skills and knowledge in the use of virtual technologies, including foreign language software applications. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Contract shall be for full-time, tenure-track teaching assignment for the 2014 – 2015 academic year, beginning August 21, 2014. A teaching demonstration will be required during the interview process. SALARY The starting salary ranges from $59,426 - $81,624 depending on education and experience. Excellent fringe benefits are included.
