The Department of History at Lehman College of the City University of New York (CUNY) announces an opening for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in the 2014-2015 academic year. The successful candidate will perform teaching, research, and guidance duties in the department of History, including teaching upper and lower division courses and some interdisciplinary courses, as determined by the needs of the department. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

Faculty will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Lehman College based centers and institutes on research and other projects of scholarly interest.


Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. A significant portion of the prospective faculty member's instructional responsibilities will involve online classroom instruction; the faculty member should be experienced in e-learning and online classroom management. The faculty member is expected to possess a strong background and teach courses in the field of women's and gender studies, with particular focus on examining history from a perspective informed by this interdisciplinary approach. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
