Position Summary: The College of Education at Michigan State University has established a dynamic set of pipeline initiatives in support of its focus in urban education. These efforts include a summer pre-college program, an undergraduate specialization program in urban education, an urban immersion fellowship, as well as outreach initiatives involving Michigan urban school districts and Chicago Public Schools. This position will report to the Assistant Dean for Student Support Services & Recruitment. We are seeking an outstanding academic specialist who will provide support and leadership by developing and implementing effective advising and retention efforts for future teacher preparation students and first and second year Urban Educator Cohort Program (UECP) students; provide leadership in the recruitment of high school students for pre-college program participation; provide leadership in the recruitment of graduate students for graduate degree programs; and engage in grant writing with a particular focus on securing funding in support of the overall college urban education agenda.

This is a 12 month position, annually renewable. The position is available beginning March 1, 2014. The successful applicant will maintain an office base on the East Lansing campus; however, assignments will frequently require the specialist's presence away from the office and in Michigan urban school settings. Nights and weekends will be involved.

Support Staff: Minimum Requirements
A MA degree is required in the following field: Education, Student Affairs, or Counseling; a minimum of 3 years experience in K -12 or higher education or equivalent.

Typing Requirements (wpm):

Desired Qualifications: A PhD degree is preferred in the following field: Education, Student Affairs, or Counseling. Successful track record of program development and/or delivery in urban contexts and/or with urban populations; demonstrated ability to engage in successful grant writing and management.
