Student Legal Services Advisor, ASUA

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: *Provide free, confidential legal advice and assistance to students of the University of Arizona regarding legal rights, responsibilities, and obligations in matters including landlord/tenant law, criminal law, contracts, consumer law, litigation, domestic relations, and immigration law. The Advisor may not represent those students in administrative or court proceedings. *Explore students' legal rights and responsibilities via legal research, letters, telephone calls, help in resolving disputes and any other appropriate action. *Serve as the staff advisor to the ASUA Supreme Court and assist in the selection, hiring, and training of student representatives. *Coordinates, in consultation with the Office of the General Counsel, in-service trainings regarding legal issues in higher education for the Dean of Students Office personnel and key campus partners. *Coordinates, in consultation with the Office of the General Counsel and the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students, an annual legal issues in higher education symposium. *Supervises interns from the University of Arizona College of Law, who will assist the Advisor with serving students, as appropriate. *Maintain and update a legal reference library. *Assists with the development and maintenance of the Legal Services web site, social media platforms, and informational guides and brochures on various legal topics for use by students. *In collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs Assessment unit, develops assessment tools to measure Legal Services effectiveness, student needs assessment, etc. *Prepares reports and proposals as needed (i.e., Student Services Fee reports and proposals, annual reports, etc.) *Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: *J.D. degree and membership in the State Bar of Arizona for at least 3 years. *Demonstrated and effective written and oral communication skills, *Demonstrated effectiveness in working with diverse communities of students *Demonstrated ability to work autonomously *Prior experience developing and facilitating workshops/presentations. ADDITIONAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: *Demonstrated experience in or knowledge of the following areas: landlord/tenant law, criminal law, contracts, consumer law, litigation, domestic relations, and immigration law. *Prior experience coordinating programs or events.
