Director of Multicultural Student Affairs

The Director of Multicultural Student Affairs provides support and challenge for MALANA students through the development of programs/initiatives focused on student success related to retention, academic excellence, and graduation. The Director works with all students, staff, and faculty to enhance appreciation and understanding of diversity issues and experiences including, race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and ability. The Director also facilitates trainings and workshops for residence life staff, orientation programs, and others as needed. Supervision includes an Assistant Director and four student employees. The Director of Multicultural Student Affairs develops orientation programs for MALANA students and families. The Director serves as coordinator for the Mentoring Program connecting first-year MALANA students with campus and community mentors, recruits mentors/mentees, and plans mentee programs. Community outreach includes connecting students with internship and volunteer opportunities in Bloomington/Normal, support of University/community programs including MLK programming, the Gospel Festival, and Minority Academic Achievement Recognition program. Campus service includes membership on the University Council for Diversity, student success team, campus on-call duty group, and new student orientation committee. Some weekend and evening work will be required Bachelor degree and Master degree required; Master degree in student affairs or applicable field preferred, with knowledge on student development and identity theory. A minimum of five years of professional experience is highly desired. The ideal candidate will include an established record of experience in working with MALANA students, retention and academic success programs, first-year student programs, advising student groups, social/educational/cultural program coordination, and assessment. Remuneration is based on education and experience and includes benefit package. This position is a 12month, live out position.
