Senior Director, Product Discovery

Due to our rapid growth, MassBiologics is seeking a Senior Director of Product Discovery to develop and lead research projects for MassBiologics' product discovery’s team. In addition to evaluating new projects and making recommendations to senior management, you will also:

  • Lead and manage a group of Research Associates, Research Scientists and Lab technicians
  • Define project strategy and work with the executive director to engage in new projects and collaborations
  • Oversee the development of methods for producing antigens and antibodies of interest
  • Oversee the development and implementation of in vitro assays to detect and measure biologic activities of all monoclonal antibodies
  • Oversee the strategic selection of lead candidate antibodies and antibody conjugates
  • Ensure completion of all in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical activity of lead candidate human antibodies
  • Identify, develop, and oversee internal and external research collaborations
  • Determine opportunities for publication with responsibility for all externally communicated data
  • Ensure that departmental documentation of experimental data meet standards suitable to support publication, FDA submission, and patent filing
  • Interpret experimental data and work with senior leadership to determine project direction
  • Strategically identify resources for the successful achievement of departmental goals
  • Use technical expertise to advise staff on developing project approaches and  resolving complex problems as they arise
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff; establishing expectations, defining roles, supporting career development and managing performance


A PhD in Biological Science or related field, a strong background in human antibody molecular Biology required.  Experience in generating human antibodies directly from Bcells, bi-specific antibody development or humanization of antibodies preferred. Prior experience successfully managing a scientific team is a must as well as experience with cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, cell culture, protein expression and purification and monoclonal antibody development. Experience with stable cell line development, protein biochemistry and small animal experimentation is preferred. Some national and international travel may be required.
