Job Description Summary
Teaching hands-on workshops for participants interested in starting a business who need help with the procedural part of the start up. Topics will include: Reserving a business name, reviewing the forms of business ownership and registering the business with the state, registering a trademark or service mark, filing procedures and fees, process for hiring employees, tax filings that may be encountered, and filing for an EIN. Knowledge of organizations such as the SBA, et al, that can aid participants is required. The information gained is for the individuals’s informational purposes and not designed to act as legal counsel on owning a business.
Prepare and teach all classes according to syllabus or outline
Maintain class records according to college and department procedures including taking roll and ensuring only registered students attend and sign in, gathering completed evaluations, and returning all documents to the Continuing Ed department immediately following class.
JD with work experience in small business start up and ownership
or a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration or related field with Paralegal Certification or related certification for small business development
Significant work experience in the area of business start ups from a procedural side
Superior organizational skill
Excellent class & student management skill
Excellent communciation skill especially as pertains to giving effective presentations
A high level of confidentiality and professionalism
Ability to work with participants of all levels
Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population
Master’s degree in business administration or related field
Small business ownership experience
Teaching experience especially in a community college setting
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and at any of the Tri-C campuses or off-site locations in the community
