GENERAL DUTIES

The Associate Administrator manages one or more College administrative functions.  He/she develops, implements, and assesses programs and services to produce high-quality results and meet strategic goals.  He/she also coordinates activities among different units, and with areas outside the College, and may oversee staff, budget, operations, and facilities.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

As John Jay College completes its inaugural $50 Million Campaign, it seeks an Executive Director of Development who will provide strategic vision and leadership for all fundraising, alumni relations, and stewardship activities during an exciting time of growth and expansion. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and Development, the Executive Director of Development will be a key member of the department's executive staff and will work closely with the President and other senior leaders of the College.

John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY), is an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice, committed to the advancement of justice and just societies. It is a public liberal arts college that enriches the entire learning experience by highlighting themes of justice across the arts, sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Located steps from Lincoln Center at the cultural heart of New York City, the College offers bachelors and masters degrees and participates in the doctoral programs of the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. John Jay College is also recognized for serving a broadly diverse student population. Under the leadership of its fourth president, Jeremy Travis, John Jay College has experienced unprecedented faculty hiring, an expansion of its curricular offerings, and the opening in 2011 of a new 600,000 square foot building complete with a black-box theatre, state-of-the-art lab space for students and faculty, a moot courtroom, and a variety of virtual learning settings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.  Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must possess a minimum of ten years of executive fundraising, leadership, and management experience; a keen understanding of best practices in fundraising; a proven track record of managing a comprehensive development and alumni relations effort; and a demonstrated record of accomplishment in developing successful strategies to build a highly efficient, effective, and creative development program in a multifaceted university system which includes major gifts, foundation relations, planned giving, and corporate relations.

S/he will have successfully planned, executed, and closed significant campaigns, and will have a proven track record in personally identifying, cultivating, and soliciting seven-figure gifts. The candidate must possess a high level of integrity and credibility; be a self-starter with a sense of urgency and a clear set of priorities; and have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a complex environment.  

The successful candidate must have extraordinary communication skills and be an open, achievement-oriented professional with experience supporting and engaging faculty, research staff, and academic leaders. The individual should have a collegial, team-building style with a demonstrated ability to motivate staff to keep them engaged, energized, and focused on results and to cultivate productive, collaborative relationships with faculty, board members, alumni, and staff across the College. S/he will create a professional work environment that rewards individual and collective success, builds confidence and promotes diversity in all its forms. Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree is preferred.

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans.  Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits.
