GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Utilization Management Nurse is assigned to a specific inpatient clinical area. The UM Nurse reviews the medical record for documentation of both Severity of Illness and Risk of Mortality as well as medical necessity for inpatient/observation admissions. The UM Nurse works with various providers on specific medical service lines to assure the appropriate level of care and documentation in the medical record; acts as a liaison for the commercial payors to secure authorizations for the patient dates of service; collaborates with the Interdisciplinary Team and the Care Coordinator to facilitate discharge management. The patient discharge requirements will be met within the scope of home care referrals and Patient Review Instruments (PRI) for nursing home placement.

Qualifications

RN with Utilization Review experience required; 5 years acute hospital and clinical documentation experience preferred.
