Northeastern University’s College of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Chair of Bioengineering. This is a unique opportunity to significantly impact the vision and direction of a new program in a world-class research university.
Building on existing strengths, Northeastern University has recently formed the Bioengineering Department (coe.neu.edu/bioe). The Department will
• integrate the College’s existing PhD program in Bioengineering and develop BS and MS degree programs in Bioengineering
• provide real-world experiential learning opportunities for students via research and cooperative education placements – an immediate competitive edge in student recruitment
• develop world-class research programs to address compelling engineering challenges
The Chair will be expected to provide a vision to direct the hiring of faculty, the creation of research foci, and the development of educational curricula. Significant resources in terms of faculty lines, start-up packages and space will be provided to assure the success of the program.
Qualified candidates will have demonstrated strategic vision through leadership of a well-established, well-funded and internationally recognized research program, as well as demonstrated excellence and significant experience in teaching (a minimum of five years) at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Research, teaching or a collaborative background that spans multiple related engineering fields is beneficial. Previous expertise managing a large federally funded center or institute is desirable. A doctoral degree in Bioengineering or another closely related field is required.
