Library Specialist: Circulation Associate
Title: Library Specialist: Circulation Associate Position Number: 502 Hours: 40 hours/52 weeks; evenings and weekends Salary: Educational Support Professional, Level C, $15.43 per hour Reports to: Director of the Library and Learning Commons (LLC) Posted through: January 31, 2014 Essential Job Functions - Master all aspects of the Millennium Circulation module, including configuration options. - Participate in hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating student assistants. - Engage in the work of the LLC Access Services Team. - Prepare nightly cash deposits. Verify cash register and change fund totals. - Manage Circulation and Periodicals Department operations during evening and weekend hours. - Inventory and update course reserve information using copyright compliance guidelines. - Notify GRCC faculty and staff when requested items are processed and ready for use. - Utilize the Campus-wide Information System (CWIS) for patron information downloads and placing appropriate patron service indicators. - Assist patrons with equipment and communicate operational issues. - Respond to customer service needs and complaints. Refer patrons, in person or via phone, to appropriate departments within the LLC and College. - Cultivate a current understanding of Serials and Interlibrary Loan procedures to backup Specialist. Draft minutes for monthly staff meetings for the Director. - Oversee shelf maintenance of library materials. - Contribute updates for the Access Services Team manual. Contribute to LLC public relations and marketing initiatives. - Consistently and fairly enforce LLC policies and procedures. - Adhere to GRCC Service Excellence Guidelines. - Secure the facility at closing times. Other duties as assigned by the Director. Marginal (non-Essential) Job Functions - Assist with the periodic data purge of obsolete records, mostly course reserves, in the ILS. - Provide circulations service data upon request. - Organize and order core office supplies inventory. Job Specifications Education: - Associate Degree or equivalent library experience. Work Experience: - Experience with an automated circulation system, preferably Innovative Interfaces. - Excellent supervisory skills. - Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning. - Commitment to student success. - Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner. - Technical proficiency in Microsoft Windows, including the Office software suite. Must meet minimum standards of the Educational Support Professional testing process (testing components: ability to type a minimum of 45-50 words per minute; 90% proficient in math; 80% proficient in edit/format letter and paragraph retrieval to format a letter; 70% proficient in Excel/spreadsheet and language arts) plus possess excellent proofreading skills and have aptitude for detail work including recordkeeping and filing. Physical Demands: - Capable of repetitious lifting of objects less than ten pounds. Mental Demands: - Enthusiasm, initiative, problem-solving abilities, and resourcefulness. - Verbal, written, and interpersonal skills for effective communication with people of diverse ages, ethnic backgrounds, sexual, and socio-economic characteristics. - Works both independently and collaboratively.
