GENERAL DUTIES

Administers and supervises financial aid programs and operations.  

- Reviews contracts, disbursements, tuition and fees; validates student eligibility for various programs

- Administers, monitors and troubleshoots CUNY financial aid systems as well as Federal and NY State systems in order to ensure integrity of student databases and timely and accurate delivery of funds

- Assists CUNY staff, applicants, and students/families with advice on financial aid issues and eligibility 

- May review and reconcile student payroll processing

- Represents the Financial Aid function at Admissions events; works with academic departments as well as Bursar, Registrar, Admissions and Computing offices to assure staff understand and implement financial aid processes correctly

- Assists in the development and evaluation of Admissions processes

- Prepares documentation, instructions, and materials in various media to support financial aid activities

- Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Financial Aid Specialist, under the direction of the Financial Aid Director, will be responsible for analyzing and implementing financial aid regulations and policies; creating and developing financial aid databases, reports, and running queries; disseminating and updating financial aid information in the College's Catalog, Web Site, brochures, and other resources; and providing financial aid counsel and advising students and families. 
- Provide on-going comprehensive overall financial aid counseling to students and their families.
- Conduct group workshops and participate orientation.
- Verify eligibility of federal and state financial aid programs, including grants, scholarships, and loans.  
- Represent the Financial Aid Office and the College at various meetings, both on and off Campus.
- Work with CUNY CIS Production Support and implementation teams to improve operational efficiency by utilizing and expanding the use of PeopleSoft functionality.
- Write and develop financial aid reports, databases, and queries.
- Test software upgrades and new aid year configurations.
- Create and maintain business process documentation.
- Conduct CUNYFIRST training for the Financial Aid staff and other student service departments.
- Assist in the day-to-day administrative and systems operations for optimal efficiency and customer service.
- Resolve students' financial aid issues.
- Keep abreast of financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The position requires an individual who is client (student) centered with a strong commitment to service. The individual must be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral). Must have comprehensive knowledge and experience in working with databases and have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office/Windows (Access, Excel, Power-point, Word, Publishing); writing and running queries and developing reports; writing rules and numerical skills; comprehensive knowledge of University's systems, software, and databases; good problem solving and organizational skills; and be able to work independently.

The individual must have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of financial aid programs (federal, state, city, institutional), regulations, policies, guidelines, and processes; a minimum of 4 years or the equivalent of 4 years of full-time work experience in student financial aid, advising/counseling students and advanced knowledge; and experience with Microsoft Access, Excel, PeopleSoft, databases, software, and developing reports.

- Knowledgeable of the financial aid processing systems (CUNYFIRST, PeopleSoft, UAPC, and SFA)
- Proficient in using database management and report-writing programs, mainly PeopleSoft Query, Crystal Reports, Access, and Excel
- Available for evening and weekend coverage in the financial aid office as required

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
