English Faculty (2 Positions)
Chemeketa Community College welcomes applications for a Full-time English Faculty (2 Positions)
Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon, seeks energetic and teaching-focused candidates for two full-time, 180-day English faculty positions starting in September 2014. An Equal Opportunity Employer, Chemeketa Community College encourages and actively seeks applications from women, veterans, people with disabilities and racially/ethnically diverse candidates.
These faculty members will teach a variety of writing and literature courses; however, the majority of the course assignments will be composition. The English faculty at Chemeketa work with students with a wide range of cultural backgrounds, language skills, and academic preparation. They are teachers first, but are also expected to be active in the campus community, the Chemeketa Writing Center, and in the program's administrative responsibilities.
The English program has long been a leader in innovative instruction at the college. English faculty have developed learning communities, online and hybrid courses, a writing center, and writing across the curriculum initiatives. The college supports continued growth and innovation with curriculum development funding, a dedicated professional development budget, a wide array of technical resources and support staff, and regular opportunity for sabbaticals. The program encourages and supports continued professional development, innovation, and creativity in all aspects of teaching and academic life.
As the college does not employ a system of academic rank or advancement, English faculty earn regular status based on positive performance reviews during three years of probationary status. The typical teaching assignment consists of two writing courses and one literature or film course each quarter during the academic year (with some variations). Chemeketa faculty are represented by the Chemeketa Faculty Association, an NEA affiliate. The CFA and a newly-formed Faculty Senate both provide additional opportunities for academic leadership and advocacy at the college.
Chemeketa serves a large, diverse three-county area through its central campus in Salem, a network of satellite campuses and centers, and by being a statewide leader in online education. Centrally located in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, Salem, the state capitol, is very close to mountains, beaches, national and state parks, small towns, and the city of Portland.
