Assistant Director of Research

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

The MIT/Masdar Institute Cooperative Program is seeking to hire an Assistant Director of Research. Will work closely with MIT and Masdar Institute faculty to:

  • Lead and develop a comprehensive MIT/Masdar cooperative research program to support MI’s mission and strategic initiatives
  • Provide hands-on data analysis, interpretation of analysis, and preparation of reports for both internal and external use and distribution
  • Solicit calls for extended abstracts and proposals working with the Joint Research Advisory Committee
  • Work with MIT faculty as well as Masdar Institute faculty to help develop and submit proposals
  • Provide critically important reporting with regard to project assessment and progress
  • Work to enhance effective data and information flow between the different departments and research labs at MIT to enhance interaction and research coordination
  • Supervise all research projects and work with Program Financial Officer with regard to assisting potential PIs with project budget submittals
  • Work closely with the MIT Desphande Center and the Masdar Institute Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to link research and education and foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, including through collaborative translational research and programs to help develop the innovation ecosystem in the UAE
  • Work closely with the Director and Executive Director of the MIT/MI Cooperative Program on coordination and administration of the educational component of the program and its interface with the research activities of the program


  • An earned doctorate in an appropriate academic discipline with an emphasis on quality, program productivity, and evaluation of institutional research programs and initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience with quantitative research methods and statistics
  • Sound knowledge of qualitative research methods
  • At least five years of relevant experience in higher education research management
  • Relevant experience in (1) data collection, analysis, and interpretation; (2) strategic planning; (3) project management and assessment; and (4) executive-level experience working with a strategic advisory council and/or steering committee
