Position Description Summary:
The George Washington University. The Department of Sociology invites applications for a tenured position as Professor and Chair to begin in Fall 2014. We seek a nationally prominent scholar with research and teaching interests in any of the department's areas of specialization at the graduate level: inequality, urban sociology, or criminology. The department offers MA programs in sociology and (jointly with Forensic Sciences) criminology along with majors and minors in sociology, criminal justice, and human services, and a minor in Law & Society.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
This scholar will serve as chair of the department and conduct reserch and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in her/his areas of specialization.
A Ph.D. in Sociology, a distinguished and ongoing record of scholarly achievement as demonstrated by excellence in research (including extramural funding) and teaching, and prior experience in academic administration. Applicants at the advanced Associate Professor level whose records are commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor and who meet the above qualifications will also be considered.
Advertised Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience.
