Financial Aid Technician (P/T)
Position Summary: The basic function of this position is to ensure that all documentation received from students applying for Federal financial aid is processed efficiently; application verification is performed accurately and in a timely manner, and financial aid is awarded in compliance with Federal, state, and institutional regulations. In addition, the person in this position will be required to represent the college at community outreach events. Some evening work may be required.
Principle Accountabilities: *Determine information required to complete Financial aid application/file and through communication management request additional information as needed. *Check data for accuracy and compliance with Federal regulations; return application materials for completion and corrections if necessary. *Perform verifications of all applications selected by the Department of Education according to the Federal Verification Guide by requesting and validating additional information received from students. *Interpret Federal Tax Returns including all corresponding schedules, to ensure accuracy of FAFSA completion. *Utilize various software programs such as Colleague,NSLDS and EDE to process Pell Grant corrections,input applications and generate electronic student aid reports. *Represent the college at community outreach events and conduct FAFSA workshops *Keep abreast of all information and changes, which affect federal, state and local financial aid programs. *Alternate at front desk to provide customer service by receiving and distributing paperwork and documentation to appropriate staff within Financial Aid & Scholarships Office; verify all information is complete before distribution. Some evening work may be required. *Respond to financial aid and scholarship questions received over the telephone, via email, or other electronic media, or efficiently transfer calls and forward emails to appropriate office or department. *Provides strong customer serviceb as demonstrated through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving and desire to identify and support student success. *Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported.
Requirements: *Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred *Minimum of 2 years previous working experience to include office equipment and computer operation *High level PC and software utilization skills required *Working knowledge of Datatel/Colleague databases preferred *Superior organizational and bookkeeping skills required *Professional written and verbal communication skills required *Ability to work a flexible schedule to include some evening work required.
