Additional responsibilities include engaging in scholarly and professional activities; perform college and department service including being assigned responsibilities to assist in the coordination of special education programs and initiatives; assist with NCATE/ACEI/CEC accreditation reviews and new program development; participate in the recruitment and advisement of new teacher education candidates, application and admissions processes; develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with public school professionals; seek out and apply for grants. Metropolitan College of New York faculty members share a commitment to the performance-based Purpose-Centered Education model. Because of this, they are expected to unite classroom theory with real-world practice. Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Special Education with a focus on Childhood Education or a related field with an emphasis in autism, intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities. Consideration will be given to ABD candidates in the dissertation/defense stage. Minimum of three years licensed classroom teaching experience of elementary students with mild to moderate disabilities in an urban setting. The successful candidate would also need to have good interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic. Preferred qualifications include college and public school teaching experience in urban settings of culturally and linguistically diverse populations of students with mild to moderate disabilities; experience and skills in the use of assistive technology to support teaching and learning, and an established or emerging scholarly record.
