The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, is accepting applications for the Vice President for External Affairs (VPEA) which includes both internal and external communications and marketing. The VPEA reports to President and is responsible for serving as the college’s primary spokesperson, elevating its level of national media visibility and developing an internal communications strategy. The VPEA oversees the college’s marketing, internal and external communications, media, and public relations functions while working closely with The Citadel Alumni Association, The Citadel Foundation, and The Citadel Brigadier Foundation. As a member of the strategic planning committee of The Citadel, the VPEA is actively involved in all stages of setting the strategic direction and implementing the goals of the institution as contained in our current strategic plan—LEAD 2018. This Vice President is responsible for the design and maintenance of the College’s strategic communications plan, oversees all college publications, coordinates the college’s special events, and provides oversight of the college’s website. She or he also serves as the primary spokesperson for The Citadel; provides oversight for media relations strategies, online technologies and promotes social media best practices in advancing the institution’s reach and reputation. In addition, the VPEA helps our key constituents understand the Citadel's unique mission and articulate the goals and vision to a wider variety of audiences. The incumbent serves as liaison to the Board of Visitors Communication and Community Relations Committee. Minimum and Additional Requirements: A Master’s degree in communications, marketing, business administration or a related field or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 20 years of experience in the field of Communications and Marketing. A minimum of ten years in an executive management position that demonstrates the ability to develop and implement a cohesive and integrated marketing and communications strategy for a complex large organization is also required. Preferred Qualifications: Applicable experience within a public institution highly desired.
