UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS DARTMOUTH POSITION DESCRIPTION OFFICIAL JOB TITLE: Compensation Analyst DIVISION: Administrative & Fiscal Services DEPARTMENT: Human Resources BARGAINING UNIT STATUS: Non-Unit/Professional EEO STATUS: 3.1 JOB CODE: 013 FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Manager of Employee Relations SUPERVISES: May supervise students and other HR staff as assigned. SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Compensation Analyst will manage all functions of employee compensation for the campus while complying with university, state and federal policies and regulations and will work in concert with the Manager of Employee Relations who may assign other related duties. The Compensation Analyst will serve as compensation liaison to campus constituents and managers by responding to questions on compensation objectives, policies and procedures. The Compensation Analyst is expected to exercise skill and mature judgment, to create and maintain a climate of open dialogue; work collegially with other senior administrators; demonstrate excellent fiscal management skills and prudent employee relations skills. The incumbent will be involved in labor relations and collective bargaining processes. Exceptionally high degrees of confidentiality and discretion are required in this position. As such, the incumbent is a confidential employee as defined in M.G.L. Chapter 150E, Section 1. EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Administers classified, professional, and faculty collective bargaining agreements and non-unit staff policies and procedures as they pertain to compensation. •Manages and administers all collective bargaining and non-unit salary adjustments and communicates such to the campus community. •Works collaboratively with Payroll to ensure the accurate and timely processing of pay changes and adjustments. •Works collaboratively with department managers, Deans and other Administrators to place proper compensation value on new vacancies and other positions. •Works collaboratively with HR Staff Members on recruitment, FMLA and Worker’s Compensation issues as it pertains to compensation. •Analyzes current classification/compensation practices and makes recommendations for streamlining processes and improvements. •Manages and tracks post-retirement compensation and assignments. •Develops audit procedures and oversight review processes to ensure an accurate salary administration as it pertains to collective bargaining agreements, Board of Trustee policies and grant administration. •Participates in collective bargaining and employee/labor relations issues, and represents the administration on other various committees. •Oversight of departmental budget to include analysis and budget forecasting. •Daily oversight of unemployment claims. •Perform other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, a Financial Field or related discipline or the equivalent combination of experience and education. EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated experience in compensation and salary administration or a financial field, as a professional staff member of a large, complex organization. Experience working in a union environment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: •Professional competence as an administrator as evidenced by professional growth. •Knowledge of automated personnel and payroll information systems. •Knowledge of various compensation industry models and systems. •Knowledge of best practices in compensation industry. •Ability to stay current with new compensation industry practices and trends. *Demonstrated ability to multitask, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines. •Demonstrated analytical skills. •Strong fiscal management skills. •Excellent presentation skills; proficient in the use of PowerPoint and Excel; excellent oral and written communication skills.
