This high level administrative position provides the strategic management of the accounting and finance functions of the entire college. This employee is responsible for developing, implementing and administering, accounting, financial and business programs to efficiently serve both internal and external client needs within the framework of, federal, state and institutional regulations. The Controller is in charge of the complete accounting cycle including production of all financial statements, the analysis of those statements and the numerous required federal and state reports and ensures compliance of same. The Controller works closely with senior leadership to provide timely financial and operational recommendations based on anticipated outcomes and historical trends. The Controller coordinates the complete annual financial audit performed by the Florida Auditor General. The Controller establishes sound relationships with financial institutions including commercial and investment banks. The Controller collaborates with leaders of the organization to prepare for critical business opportunities. The Controller oversees the hiring, training and retention of competent accounting and finance staff. The Controller oversees financial system implementations and upgrades. This position performs additional duties as necessary. Minimum Education: Masters Degree required. Preferably in Accounting or Finance. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Minimum Experience/Training: Typically over ten years of relevant financial/accounting experience; proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft office applications. Minimum Certification/Licenses: CPA preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Government Accounting Standards (GASB), Financial Accounting Standards (FASB), FLDOE regulations and related financial management principles and practices. • • Ability to create Government Wide Financial Statements and reports and is able to present and interpret the results to senior leadership. • • Demonstrate strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a large complex financial organization, its people and its practices. • • Ability to identify, develop, implement and amend financial policy and procedures. • • Demonstrates strong business analytical skills. Able to proactively identify opportunities and weaknesses in an organization and effectively communicate recommendations and outcomes to senior management. • • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, working effectively with all departments and senior management of the organization. • • Has a strong understanding of Treasury Services, including cash management and investment strategies. • • Excellent oral and written communication so as to effectively, plan, organize and coordinate all financial activities of the organization in an efficient manner. • • Ability to identify, recruit, develop and retain competent financial staff. • • Demonstrates the ability to develop innovative approaches to complex financial and operational management issues. • Is able to plan, coordinate, develop, benchmark and monitor large financial and operational projects. • • Has Strong Computer Skills with advanced knowledge and proficiency in accounting systems and applications.
