Job Description Summary/Essential Duties:

Provides interpreting services requiring intermediate skills in translating for the hearing-impaired in a variety of college activities. Performs sign language interpretation for hearing-impaired students/prospective students including lectures or other classroom instruction, meetings, registration, testing, tutoring, counseling, etc. May assist in development of schedules for part-time interpreters, note-takers, tutors, etc. May also assist in locating and evaluating part-time applicants to fill vacancies in interpreter, tutor, or note-taker positions. May maintain related department records. Performs related duties as assigned


Physical Demands:

Work performed causes light fatigue because of fairly continuous mental/physical effort

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or equivalent plus a Level II or Basic Level Interpreter Certification issued by the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services Board for Evaluation of Interpreters, certification by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (NRID). Follow the Interpreting Code of Ethics as established by the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services Board for Evaluation of Interpreters. Excellent oral and written communication skills to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds. The ability to provide quality customer service. Evidence of certification will be required. *Will be subject to a criminal background check.*
