Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Bay College West Director of Academic Services is responsible for delivery of student support services and learning assistance to students enrolled in occupational and transfer programs at Bay College West. Coordinates all tutoring activities at Bay College West campus, manages the Tutoring Center, which includes hiring, training, and mentoring peer tutors for all subjects, especially writing, sciences, and mathematics; diagnosing and prescribing for student needs; and tutoring students with the most severe learning challenges. Manages and/or coordinates Student Support Services (TRIO) programs at Bay College West in conjunction with the TRIO Director and staff. Collaborate with members of the instructional team across the College to strengthen student success and retention in the math and science curriculum. Responsible for oversight of all supplemental instruction/center activities, including gaining faculty support for projects; selecting, training, assigning, and evaluating supplemental instruction instructors and tutors; maintaining materials and equipment; and program evaluation. Teach college success skills courses and/or seminars as assigned. Serve as an academic advisor for Bay College West students. Serve as a member of the Bay College West Administrative Council. - Set goals and objectives for Bay College West Academic Support Services. - Hire, schedule, and evaluate tutors, accommodative service providers, and Supplemental Instruction Leaders. - Process payroll, eligibility, and human resources paperwork in a timely fashion. - Conduct assessments for determining appropriate levels of academic support for qualified students. - Advise students and arrange for appropriate services needed for student success. - Document and arrange accommodations for students with disabilities. - Coordinate the provision of learning support services and communicate with appropriate faculty and staff regarding such services and policies. - Refer students to such external service providers as Michigan Rehabilitation and community mental health services as appropriate. - Work closely with Supplemental Instruction, Math-Science Coordination, Student Success Office, and TRIO personnel on the Escanaba campus. - Participate in academic support committees and other advisory committees as needed. - Discuss and promote academic support services with students, parents, campus audiences, new students, and the community. - Operate the Student Success Center at Bay College West. - Work with faculty to diagnose writing/reading/mathematics challenges and develop individualized support plans. - Remain current in academic support services and methodologies. - Oversee mentoring of TRIO participants as assigned. - Provide assistance in study strategies and computer-based programs designed to improve reading speed and comprehension, writing capabilities, and mathematical ability for students. - Provide data and analysis for use in federal, state, and College reports. - Serve as an academic advisor as needed at Bay College West. - Serve as a member of the Bay College West Administrative Council. - Any other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree. - Some graduate-level education. - At least three years of experience in education Preferred Qualifications: - Master's Degree. - Writing or Learning Center experience. - College level teaching experience in developmental writing, reading, mathematics, or study skills. - Experience in training/supervising student employees. Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. CST Supervision Exercised: Supervises work-study students, SI Leaders and/or tutors assigned to the Tutoring Center. Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Vice President - Bay College West.
