The Department of Art in the College of the Arts at Columbus State University has an opening for a Facilities and Gallery Manager effectively immediately. Sited on a bank above the Chattahoochee River in metropolitan Columbus, the new college and arts complex establishes CSU's arts program as a vibrant presence in region. The Facilities and Gallery Manager will be responsible for a variety of tasks dealing with all aspects of health and safety, maintenance, operations, and access within all Department of Art classrooms, teaching labs, studios, and exhibition spaces. They will communicate with a wide variety of constituents regarding all daily facility, programming and exhibition operations of the department. Responsibilities include preparatory work for exhibitions and related programming, collection management, and coordination with staff and faculty on lectures and other special events and programs. They will provide support for the Visiting Artists and Scholars Residency Program. They will coordinate and supervise part-time facility technical staff and student assistants. They will maintain the safe and healthy operation of all tools, equipment and machinery other than computational equipment within the department’s adjacent facilities and coordinate as required with appropriate health and safety officials. Broad knowledge of safe and efficient use and maintenance of equipment, tools and machinery in diverse studio areas is required, as is demonstrating basic knowledge of preparatory work for exhibitions including proper art handling. General knowledge of studio processes and techniques with some emphasis in a studio area is required. Knowledge of sculpture or ceramics is desired. Four year postsecondary education with art related experience is required (B.F.A. and/or M.F.A. is preferred). Demonstrated gallery or museum and/or demonstrated studio technician or related experience is required. A successful applicant will possess excellent organizational and communication skills, have the ability to think critically and solve a variety of problems, and the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision under a variety of circumstances. A successful applicant will have the ability to work well under pressure, to productively interact with a wide variety of professionals, vendors, students, assistants and others, have flexibility with work hours and demonstrate a working knowledge of computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
