West Virginia University School of Medicine is seeking a Chair for its Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry. Applicants should possess strong leadership skills, experience in academic medicine, significant administrative and management experience, and a demonstrated commitment to the missions of teaching and service and a strong track record in research. The Chair will hold primary responsibility for guiding the educational programs of the department, identifying new opportunities for clinical services and outreach, and building depth in research. Significant support is in place to secure a strong research agenda. The WVU has excellent neuroscience research facilities including new and updated research laboratories, several dedicated research buildings and state-of-the-art clinical neuroimaging facilities. The Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry includes 52 full time multidiscipline faculty positions and 5 part time faculty positions. Clinical settings include Chestnut Ridge Center (CRC), a free standing, state of the art facility occupying a prominent location on our campus, and the William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital in Weston, WV, the state’s excellent 150 bed primary psychiatric and forensic facility. The CRC location includes 4 acute inpatient units; 2 residential programs, several active day programs as well as offices to support faculty, trainees and staff. Yearly outpatient census has reached 40,000 adult visits with an additional 10,000 child visits. Our tele-psychiatry program maintains 26 weekly clinics throughout rural West Virginia and will expand to 35 clinics in the first quarter of 2014. In 2013, 10,000 video patient contacts have been achieved. Our active and productive medical education programs include 28 approved general psychiatry positions, 4 child fellowship positions and single fellowships in both Forensics and Psychosomatics. We sponsor two psychology internships and two neuropsychology fellows. Our neuropharmacology program supports multiple post doctorates; as well our social work program supports multiple graduate student internships. WVU Healthcare, our integrated health system, includes a multispecialty practice plan and our campus hospitals. Our medical campus includes teaching hospital Ruby Memorial, a 531-bed facility, Chestnut Ridge Center (CRC), the Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center, a Level One Center, the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, the Eye Institute, Rehabilitation Hospital and the Advanced Imaging Center, including an in-house cyclotron. $200 million in current campus construction projects include a 115 patient bed tower addition and a greatly enlarged emergency department in addition to multiple support facilities (family house and day care centers) to complement our large ambulatory care center. Ground breaking for a second, off-site, multidiscipline Ambulatory Care Center is set for January 2014. WVU is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a Research University (High Research Activity). The Health Sciences Center includes Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, and Public Health each with their own research programs and each committed to interdisciplinary and translational health research. With a metro area population of over 115,000, Morgantown is consistently rated as one of the best small cities in the United States, with affordable housing, excellent schools, a picturesque countryside, many outdoor recreational activities and close proximity to major cities, such as Pittsburgh, PA and Washington, DC.
