Position Summary: OPEN SUBFIELD SEARCH RELATED TO WATER: The Department of Political Science and the Environmental Science and Public Policy Program (ESPP) at Michigan State University seek candidates for a 9-month tenure-system or tenured open rank position, beginning August 16, 2013 in International Relations, Comparative Politics, American Politics or Public Policy to contribute to a new Michigan State University inter-disciplinary initiative on water issues. Specific interdisciplinary topics that would be germane include, but are not limited to, an understanding of international and transboundary water governance, the politics of water access, riparian political conflicts, the political and social consequences of water supply and demand (domestic and/or international), as well environmental policy and regulation.

This position is part of MSU's Global Water Initiative, an effort to mobilize research expertise across our campus to address the world's most compelling water issues. With over 100 faculty members already working in water-related disciplines, the university has expertise spanning academic units within the natural, social, and engineering sciences. We are committed to pursuing research of the highest caliber, creating and testing solutions, and expanding the understanding of the challenges related to water. Over the next several years, the MSU Global Water Initiative will coordinate recruitment of 16 new faculty researchers in the Colleges of Natural Science, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Social Science, and Engineering. New hires will collaborate with current faculty to enhance disciplinary expertise, strengthen linkages across disciplines, and create new advances in water science, technology, and policy. Because MSU is focused on building research excellence, global perspective, and leadership in interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches, new College of Social Science hires will hold joint appointments in the Department of Political Science and the Environmental Science and Public Policy Program. Scholars with an interest in applying for this position are directed to the website for MSU Global Water Initiative, water.msu.edu, which contains information that is more detailed and is updated regularly.
