Position Summary: The Department of Romance and Classical Studies at Michigan State University is seeking two academic-year full-time instructors or assistant professor positions of Spanish beginning August 16, 2014. The individual(s) selected will teach three courses per semester or equivalent at the 100, 200 or 300-level, and will be expected to participate in activities related to the Basic Spanish language program. This is a fixed-term position with potential for annual renewal based on performance and availability of funding.

Rank is determined by highest degree; with a Master's degree required for an instructor position and a Ph.D. required for an assistant professor position. M.A. degree or equivalent (in Spanish, Applied Linguistics or related field); demonstrable knowledge of contemporary approaches to communicative language teaching; oral ability in Spanish at the Advanced-plus level on the ACTFL scale; willingness to work with other instructors in an articulated proficiency-oriented and communicatively-driven program under the leadership of the Language Program Director; two years of experience in college-level instruction in Spanish; demonstrated excellence in language teaching.

Typing Requirements (wpm):

Desired Qualifications: Certification in ACTFL Oral Proficiency Testing; Superior level in Oral Proficiency on the ACTFL scale; ability to teach French.
