IT Specialist 5
Seattle Central Community College (SCCC) is recruiting an IT Specialist 5 (ITS5) to manage our UNIX and Linux servers. The ITS5 is a full-time, classified position at SCCC. The ITS5 performs a wide variety of highly complex, mission critical functions. Services managed include enterprise web servers, DNS, DHCP, NTP, SSH, SFTP, SCP. Duties include planning, installation of hardware and software, virtualization, and security functions as well as scripting and programming using tools such as C, Perl, PHP, and Python. Work involves integrating new technology and serving as an expert/consultant on Unix/Linux systems for other technical staff members. Essential Functions: •Install, maintain, and upgrade server hardware and software for Unix and Linux. •Install, configure, monitor and maintain virtualization environments. •Install, maintain and support web server software for students, faculty, and official college sites. •Support Google education tools, including creation and maintenance of scripts to manage accounts. •Create and modify scripts and programs using tools such as Perl, Python, PHP, bash, Ruby. •Install, configure, monitor and maintain WordPress systems for the college web team. Required Education, Experience & Abilities: •Four (4) years of experience in programming or computer support services of a technical nature. •Two (2) years of experience administering UNIX/Linux systems. •Experience with scripting and/or programming. •Experience in configuration, installation and support of network equipment including the ability to install operating systems and related equipment. •Expert level understanding of TCP\IP. •Excellent verbal and written communications skills, at a level suitable for communicating with non-technical personnel and for preparing complex documentation and reports. •Strong customer service skills. •Ability to work alone and with teams •Must complete and pass the Required Questionnaire for this position. Preferred Qualifications: •B.S. in Computer Science or a related field. •Experience working in an educational setting. •Experience with virtualization. •Experience with Windows server administration. •Experience in developing, implementing and maintaining security standards, procedures, and devices for the relevant operating systems and applications. •Experience administering dns, dhcp, ntp, http, fip, and sql databases. •Ability to use Perl, Python, PHP, bash. •Ability to use centos 5 and 6. •Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff of diverse backgrounds.
