The University of Maryland is seeking an individual to be associate director (AD) of Terrapin Teachers (TT), a highly innovative program that focuses on developing the next generation of high school STEM teachers through an undergraduate education that combines intensive subject matter training with creative training in the practice of teaching. The Associate Director (AD) is involved in all aspects of TT and works closely with the program directors, undergraduate students, master teachers, program faculty, and high school teachers, as well as with administrators at the University and in the school system. While the specific responsibilities of the AD may vary depending on the background and interest of the individual selected as well as the evolving needs of the program, the likely responsibilities include (but are not limited to): serving as the “face” of TT to campus, college, and school system committees; supervision of Master Teachers who will work in TT; helping to develop (and possibly teach) various TT courses; setting up the infrastructure for recruitment and advising of TT students; advising of TT students; working with the College of Education on TT student field experiences in the local schools; and executing TT strategy as defined by program leadership. Minimum Qualifications: Required background includes: • Minimum of master’s degree in science or mathematics or science/mathematics education,; • At least three years experience in higher education administration; • Strong supervisory experience and skills; and • Very strong oral and written communication skills. Preferences: Doctorate in in science or mathematics or science/mathematics education is preferred. Additionally, preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate: • Experience working collaboratively and also independently; • Budgetary experience; • Experience conducting and leading a research program; and • Demonstrated knowledge of recent advances in science and mathematics teaching.
