Job Description:

The Residential Life Team is a part of the Residential Services Cluster Department within the Division of Student Affairs at Alfred State. It is composed of a dedicated, student- oriented group of professionals who create an environment conducive to learning about one's self, community, and society. We provide learning opportunities, skill development, services, and personal contacts that foster successful, well-balanced and fulfilling life experiences for the students of Alfred State and our community.

Alfred State announces vacancies for residence directors for the 2013-2014 academic year. This live-in position includes weekend and evening hours and completion of an on call duty coverage providing campus oversight for all residence halls. Residence directors are also responsible for selection, training, and supervision of a residential student staff; community development within the living-learning environment; residence hall governance; coordination of programming; serving as liaison between students, faculty, and administrators with regard to college policies in residence across the campus; enforcement of community standards, the student code of conduct and other aspects of the disciplinary process; administration of college policies and residence hall operations, including opening and closing activities; demonstration of professionalism in interactions with all other campus constituencies and guests of the College; plus the promotion of campus activities and student/faculty initiatives.

Our residence directors also serve as program coordinators throughout the Division of Student Affairs where they receive programmatic experiences ranging from: planning, program management, administration, program and event implementation, and assessment.  These roles provide our residence directors the opportunity to gain a wide breadth of experiences and develop Student Affairs competencies in addition to those developed in Residential life.

Requirements:

We are looking for successful individuals who bring a positive outlook and upbeat attitude, and who enjoy interacting with college-age students. Master's prepared candidates are highly preferred. Candidates must possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree. Successful bachelor's candidates must enroll in master's-level coursework in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Student Development, Counseling, Student Services or a related academic discipline within twelve months of employment.
