York University seeks a dynamic and creative individual who will provide strong leadership and promote innovation as Dean of Graduate Studies and Associate Vice-President Graduate. With 6000 graduate students, the second largest graduate population in an Ontario university, York’s Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) is one of the largest graduate schools in Canada. The Faculty is committed to attracting and educating outstanding graduate students and to offering those students excellent programs, research opportunities, and support. In cooperation with York’s ten other Faculties, FGS offers over 50 Masters and Doctoral programs and graduate diplomas in the humanities and social sciences, fine arts, science, engineering, environmental studies, law, business, education, and health. For further information, see Reporting to the Vice-President Academic and Provost, the Dean of Graduate Studies and Associate Vice-President Graduate is a senior member of the Provost’s team. The Dean/Associate Vice-President is expected to advance the University’s mission and priorities, and to play a national leadership role in shaping graduate education in Canada. The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. She or he is responsible for providing leadership, in collaboration with Deans of the other Faculties and senior administrators, for the articulation and implementation of strategic and integrated plans for enrolments, recruitment of outstanding students, and curriculum. This includes the development of innovative programming and ensuring the quality of graduate programs. She or he also works with the Vice-President Research & Innovation towards closer integration of graduate education and strategic research plans, and with colleagues across the University in developing new initiatives to support and enhance the experience of graduate students. The successful candidate will bring outstanding academic qualifications, significant successful administrative experience and leadership in graduate education, and a track record of creativity and innovation.
