President, Dutchess Community College

Dutchess Community College invites applications and nominations for President.

Dutchess Community College (DCC), founded in 1957 and located in New York’s beautiful mid-Hudson Valley, 90 minutes north of New York City, is one of the most highly regarded community colleges in the SUNY system. The college had a fall 2013 enrollment of more than 10,000 credit students and offers more than 60 academic programs, with A.A. and A.S. programs designed for transfer comprising the majority of programs. A.A.S. and certificate programs provide additional options for those who wish to enter the workforce after graduation. Another 10,000 noncredit students are served annually by the Office of Community Services’ professional, workforce development, life enrichment, youth, ESL, high school equivalency and other offerings. Located in the Town of Poughkeepsie, DCC is one of the largest employers in Dutchess County and plays a vital role in local economic development and the area’s cultural and social vibrancy.

The Dutchess Community College Board of Trustees seeks a new President who has a deep understanding of, and who is committed to, the mission and values of the College. This individual will be a person of integrity who will provide creative and inspirational leadership, and who will make a long-term commitment to DCC. S/he will be an advocate for the College at the local, state and federal levels and will have successful experience in internal and external community-building. The President will be collaborative, innovative and committed to student success.

Experience in senior administration and management, preferably at a community college, working with a board of trustees, a college foundation and diverse citizens, employees, and students, is required. Successful candidate will have experience leading program changes that increase enrollment and improve student retention and completion, as well as demonstrable interest in personally interacting with students. An earned doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.Mgt., or J.D.) from an accredited institution is preferred.

The next President of Dutchess Community College will: develop collaborative relationships with all internal and external stakeholders; build effective teams that foster collaboration across functional areas; be visible and accessible to all constituencies, demonstrating exemplary communications skills and responsiveness to College and community needs; support a positive campus environment by recognizing and supporting the contributions and efforts of all faculty and staff; encourage and support professional development; and understand and be responsive to the changing needs of a diverse college community.

This individual also will: administer the budget innovatively and with fiduciary acumen; raise public and private funds by connecting with elected officials, corporate and business leaders, prospective donors and alumni; develop partnerships with area stakeholders to support workforce development and regional economic growth; embrace the use of new and emerging technology to support student learning and college operations; and successfully prepare for the College’s reaccreditation.

Prior to submitting an application, please review the Executive Search Profile at www.sunydutchess.edu/presidentialsearch for additional information about the College and the position. To ensure full consideration, materials should be received by February 25, 2014.
