FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Law and Paralegal Studies Department seeks full-time tenure-track faculty members at the assistant professor level to join our growing program.  Our associate and baccalaureate degree programs are ABA approved, and we are the only CUNY college to offer an ABA approved BS degree in Legal Assistant Studies. The department's full-time faculty is made up of licensed attorneys.  The curriculum prepares our students to be competent paralegals.  Our degrees address the practical and essential issues needed in the profession; students are introduced to the legal system and various courts, procedural rules needed to assist attorneys in the practice of law, and research both in and out of the law office.  Critical thinking and oral and written communication are enforced throughout the curriculum. 

Program graduates are employed in private law firms of various sizes, corporate law departments, federal, state and local government agencies and the courts, and agencies providing legal services for the poor.

Faculty are responsible for teaching a range of legal courses, conducting academic advisement and registration, developing curricula, and conducting appropriate research.  Committee and departmental participation is required, as well as professional development activities leading to presentations and publications.

Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

For appointment at the rank of assistant professor, candidates must hold the juris doctor degree (J.D.) and be admitted to the New York State Bar.
- A minimum of 3 years of practical experience in the field is expected, including experience working as a paralegal or with paralegals
- Teaching experience at the college level is desired
- Excellent communication and computer skills are essential
- Mock Trial experience helpful

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
