Professor of Public Health (Open Rank)
North Carolina Wesleyan University invites applications for a 9-month appointment as a tenured/tenure-track professor (rank open) of Public Health beginning in August 2027. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, teaching a variety of public health classes at the graduate and undergraduate level; advising and mentoring students; promoting program growth and academic quality; supervising student interns, and serving on internal committees. We are especially interested in candidates with experience and interest in public health approaches to nutrition and food security and/or working with rural communities. Our public health programs provide high-quality courses, collaborative community-engaged faculty, and opportunities to engage in faculty-student research. We offer undergraduate major and minor degrees, an MPH degree with two available concentrations (Physical Activity and Health and Social Epidemiology) and a Graduate Certificate in Public Health.
We seek passionate candidates with online teaching experience, a strong grounding in health equity and community health, and a commitment to growing and nurturing current and future public health professionals. All North Carolina Wesleyan faculty are expected to engage students using pedagogically sound traditional and innovative instructional strategies. A regular teaching load is 12 hours per semester, which may vary based on the distribution of teaching across the graduate and undergraduate programs.
Qualifications: an earned doctoral degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Nutrition, or closely related field, is required. ABD candidates will be considered but must have obtained a doctorate degree by August 2027. Previous college or university-level teaching experience is strongly preferred, particularly in the areas of public health nutrition, epidemiology, and/or community health. Evidence of advising, supervising, and/or collaborating with students is highly desirable. Evidence of scholarly activities such as peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations is also a plus.
Applications should include: 1) a letter of application; 2) a curriculum vitae, including contact information for at least three professional references; and 3) copies of transcripts showing academic work in higher education and degrees received. Please submit the application as a single pdf file. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. Application materials should be sent, as a single pdf, to Ms. Tammy Harrell, Manager of Faculty Records and Academic Projects, by email to tharrell@ncwu.edu.
