Job Summary
We seek a permanent teaching faculty member, at either the Academic Professional or Senior Academic Professional level, to serve as coordinator and instructor for our General Chemistry for Engineers (CHEM 1310) course. The position will develop teaching materials and pedagogy for General Chemistry for Engineers, teach one lecture section per semester, coordinate the laboratory for this course, and serve as part of the department's undergraduate advisement team. This is a permanent position with both academic instructional and administrative responsibilities. Academic Professionals (AP's) at Georgia Tech are non-tenure track, academic faculty with a well-defined promotion path. Credit towards promotion can be given for prior relevant experience. We strongly encourage applicants with interests in evidence-based instructional methods and chemistry education research.
Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for the development and coordination of CHEM 1310, a combined lecture-laboratory general chemistry course taken by engineering majors that require only one semester of introductory chemistry. Lecture coordination will involve teaching one section and collaborating with faculty teaching other sections of CHEM 1310 on teaching materials, activities, and examinations. Laboratory coordination will involve mentorship of graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants as well as management of the physical aspects of laboratory experiments in collaboration with First-year Chemistry stockroom staff and the lab coordinator for the first-year CHEM 1211K and 1212K sequence. This position will also be responsible for academic advisement of ~40 undergraduate majors.
