Responsibilities

This invitation for applications covers one full-time Non-Tenure-Track instructor who will also act as Director of the Engineering Living Learning Community (ELLC) at FSU. The instructor will work collaboratively to establish a welcoming and supportive environment for our first-year engineering students and will teach multiple sections of First-Year Engineering Lab (FYEL). The course helps students develop communication and problem-solving skills and acclimates them to project-based learning. The ELLC director will collaborate with departments and other FYEL instructors on curriculum development, designing class projects, assessment, and teaching as needed.

In addition, the instructor will participate in new student orientation and advising, facilitate student participation in engagement activities, coordinate with pre-engineering advisors and department major advisors, collaborate with other college staff (recruitment coordinator, director of student engagement, and director of student access) to increase retention, and help monitor retention rates and other performance-based metrics.

Qualifications

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in an engineering discipline, engineering education, or equivalent field. Industrial experience, while not required, would be very valuable. Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, a commitment to innovative teaching methods, and a desire to serve and prepare students for successful college and professional careers. An interest in engineering education best practices, research and assessment, and demonstrated knowledge and interest in first-year engineering programming and initiatives are desirable attributes.
