Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Division of Hematology in the Department of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
The next Division Chief will lead one of the largest and most successful pediatric hematology programs in the nation and will be expected to participate in patient care, teaching, and scholarship. The Division of Pediatric Hematology is comprised of over 32 faculty and attending physicians with diverse clinical, educational, and investigative interests, as well as 23 post-doctoral research fellows, 18 pediatric hematology oncology fellows and over 100 staff members.
Teaching responsibilities may include teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and APPs. The Division has responsibilities for training large numbers of medical students, residents, and fellows. Educating the next generation of pediatric hematology leaders is a priority of the Division, which holds an NIH T32 training grant in addition to dedicated and endowed training funds.
Clinical responsibilities may include inpatient or outpatient services at CHOP’s Main campus, King of Prussia campus and other sites. The Division leads multiple robust outpatient clinical programs, including Bone Marrow Failure, Hemophilia, Platelet, Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia programs, providing care in over 6500 patient outpatient encounters per year. Multispecialty programs within the Division include leaders in pediatrics, nursing, psychology, and social work who are frequently partnered with leaders in associated research fields.
The Division has a strong inpatient presence, which consists of a large teaching service at the Main CHOP Hospital Campus in Philadelphia. Numerous inpatient attendings provide primary and consultative care for over 5,900 inpatient encounters per year.
The successful applicant will have a strong track record of scholarship and research.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include contributions to the field of pediatric hematology. The Division encompasses a well-funded research enterprise, including basic science, translational, clinical and health services research programs and spanning all areas of the field. Areas of research focus include hemoglobinopathies, hemostasis and thrombosis, and bone marrow failure. In addition, the Division is advancing transfusion medicine and cell-based therapies for hematologic diseases, including pioneering approaches for sickle cell disease, thalassemia, and hemophilia. The next Division Chief will lead a large group of investigators, supporting their research endeavors through advocacy, mentorship, and development of philanthropic partnerships. The next Division Chief will have substantive opportunity to grow both clinical and investigative programs in the division that advance the field and CHOP’s mission.
The Division Chief reports to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and works closely with the other Division Chiefs, the Associate Chairs, and the Vice Chair in the Department of Pediatrics.
The Division Chief will oversee the clinical, research, and educational activities of the Division, lead recruiting efforts in the Division, and ensure career mentoring for all faculty and fellows in the Division.
Inquiries about the position should be sent to the Chair of the Search Committee, Dr. Angela Ellison at ellisona@chop.edu
