The Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is Canada’s top-ranked ECE department, and one of the largest. We are home to 100 active and Emeritus professors, more than 1,400 undergraduate and 800 graduate students. You are a creative and collaborative graphic designer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You are solutions-oriented, enjoy working with diverse stakeholders, including students, professors and staff, and making key contributions toward team goals. You are seeking a dynamic team where no two days are quite the same, and enjoy keeping your own workflows organized. You love using photography and videography to support storytelling, and capture the energy of the community around you. You are comfortable prioritizing multiple competing projects on deadline, have high attention to detail and take ownership over your work, seeing it through from concept, through planning and logistics, execution, and follow-up. You take pride in creatingsystems that work and supporting the smooth functioning of the team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and producing graphic designs that reflect departmental and/or divisional objectives
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials
  • Designing templates to ensure consistent brand and accessibility standards
  • Reviewing and approving graphic design materials for publication
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
  • Serving as the official department photographer, responsible for capturing events and programs; Professionally photograph stakeholders with cameras and studio lighting, for use in corporate communications materials
  • Editing photographs and supporting the team with video editing
  • Use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom to manipulate, edit, and colour correct photos and other pixel-based imagery

Essential Qualifications:

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of professional graphic design experience
  • Experience using a digital camera and familiarity with post-production editing tools
  • Experience with videography, video editing and post-production
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or other desktop publishing software
  • Experience designing for both print and web
  • Advanced experience with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, showing initiative and good judgment, and also the ability to work cooperatively and be an effective team member
  • Professional attitude and highly service-oriented, with sensitivity to levels of expectations from senior management, faculty, staff and suppliers
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to concisely summarize information
  • Understanding of AODA requirements as they apply to design and creating accessible documents
  • Good understanding of interactive design principles, usability and online branding issues


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Knowledge of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and the University of Toronto
  • Knowledge of the engineering
