Position Description :

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instruction position in Elementary Education to teach at the Collin College Campus located in McKinney, TX. Applicants with expertise in literacy education, mathematics education, social studies education and/or science education are encouraged to apply.

The chosen candidate will provide instruction to teacher candidates in undergraduate courses at the at the Collin College satellite campus of Texas State University. Candidates will generally be at the junior and senior level who are earning a TXST B.S. in Education at the Collin College Technical Campus. This is a non-tenure line, nine-month faculty of instruction position with a renewable one-year contract subject to annual reappointment review. This will be the first of several new positions hired for this program.

Other responsibilities and expectations associated with this position include:

  • Teach 3 undergraduate courses per long semester.
  • Program coordination of in-person and hybrid Teacher Pathways Program at Collin College. including Elementary Education, Special Education, and Bilingual Education.
  • Support student recruitment efforts.
  • Assist students with general academic and career advising.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, and professional community.
  • Serve as a liaison and main point of contact between Collin College and Texas State University departments (Curriculum and Instruction, Office of Educator Preparation, Advising, Dean’s Office, Global Division, etc.).
  • Participate in institutional and professional service.
  • Exhibit a collaborative attitude that feeds into the culture of cooperation and teamwork in Curriculum and Instruction.

This non-tenure line faculty position is primarily for teaching. Candidates are not expected to engage in research, external funding, or publications. Position is subject to the availability of funds.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned a master’s degree from an accredited institution by hire date in one of the following areas: Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teaching and Learning, Literacy Education, Mathematics Education, Social Studies Education, Science Education, or a closely related field.
  • Record of, or demonstrated potential for, service at the department, college, university, and/or professional level.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
  • Three or more years of full-time teaching experience in elementary educational settings [EC-6th grade].

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution by hire date in one of the following areas: Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teaching and Learning, Literacy Education, Mathematics Education, Social Studies Education, Science Education, or a closely related field.
  • Record of effective teaching strategies in U.S. colleges and/or university settings.
  • Record of five or more years of excellence in teaching or assisting with pedagogical courses in community colleges and/or university settings.
  • Elementary level teacher certification.
