Southeastern Louisiana University's College of Science and Technology invites applications for the position of Department Head for The Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology (IET). The Department is seeking an Innovative and dedicated leader to serve as Department Head. This position requires a collaborative and strategic leader to guide the department in achieving academic and administrative excellence. As the chief academic and administrative officer of the IET department, the Department Head will foster a culture in which teaching, research, service, and industry collaborations are prioritized and celebrated.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to advancing the department's mission and have a proven track record of academic leadership, budget management, and fostering research and academic excellence. The Department Head is active in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and maintains a research program appropriate for a department in a college with undergraduate and master's degree programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide visionary leadership and serve as the liaison between faculty and
  • university administration.
  • Oversee curriculum development and implementation across three academic
  • programs: Industrial Technology (IT), Engineering Technology (ET), and
  • Occupational, Safety, Health and Environment (OSH&E), ensuring alignment
  • with industry trends and academic standards.
  •  Lead efforts in the assessment of student learning outcomes and program
  • effectiveness.
  • Manage and allocate the department’s budget to effectively support
  • academic, research, and operational needs.
  • Champion the growth and enhancement of research initiatives, seeking
  • opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and external funding.
  • Cultivate an environment that supports faculty development and rewards
  • excellence in teaching, research, and service.
  • Drive initiatives that support the strategic goals of the department, college,
  • and university, advancing the reputation and impact of the degree programs
  • offered by the department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate in a discipline related to, but not limited to, Engineering or Industrial Technology

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A proven record of excellence in research and teaching, with qualifications that support appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
  • Demonstrated success in academic administration, with experience in leading terms, and managing budgets and programs, or relevant industry experience that can be leveraged to enrich the classroom instruction and connect theory with real-world practice.
  • Proven experience in developing partnerships and collaborative relationships with regional companies to support departmental growth and student opportunities.
  • A strong record of excellence in research and teaching that reflects commitment to high academic standards and innovative practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equal opportunity and diversity in an academic or industry setting.
  • Experience with the procedures for maintaining ABET and/or ATMAE accreditation, including program assessment, continuous improvement processes, and compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Ability to build industrial relationships to help bolster the department's relevance to current demands, technologies, and strategies commonly found in the workplace.
