University Development provides leadership and centralized services to all development offices throughout the University, serving as a focal point for annual giving, application development and IT support; campaign management; constituent programs; corporate and foundation relations; donor relations; gift planning; gift services; industry relations; marketing/communications; parents giving; principal gifts; prospect management, research and analytics; regional programs; scholarships and student aid; talent management; university events; and volunteer engagement.

The Senior Analyst is a member of University Development’s prospect development department and applies advanced analytical and critical thinking skills to strategic business opportunities associated with the university’s fundraising enterprise. The department’s twin goals are to provide timely, high-quality insights and knowledge to support a variety of fundraising strategies and to facilitate the movement of prospects through the pipeline, and its core competencies are working with information, building relationships, and delivering effective solutions.
To advance the priorities of the university-wide development community – known as OneCarolina – the Senior Analyst provides strategic services to fundraisers, which may include one or more key elements of prospect management: officer goal-setting and productivity; portfolio reviews; portfolio strategy, optimization, and consultation; tool consulting; resourcing officers; and managing prospect pipeline, leads, and pools.
Specific duties may include:
1.) Participate in annual officer goal-setting process and productivity (i.e. helping officers focus on their portfolio work).
2.) Deliver four critical client-facing portfolio management services: training, analysis, strategy (i.e. portfolio reviews), and client service.
3.) Collaboratively manage prospect pipeline, leads, and pools.
4.) Provide consulting for maximizing use / value of prospecting and portfolio tools.
5.) Deliver a comprehensive approach to resourcing officers
6.) Develop and maintain effective relationships with fundraisers and collaborators across OneCarolina.
7.) Leverage business intelligence and analytics capabilities to benefit the university development community.
8.) Partner with the Business Intelligence department to ensure that its insights are being applied in the field, while at the same time providing it with accurate, timely data from the field.
9.) Maintain and ensure the integrity of the data within the database.
10.) Develop and maintain knowledge of applicable information technology and how data are structured within the development database.
11.) Identify business needs and develop appropriate products and strategies to drive business outcomes.
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:Demonstrated experience with – or aptitude for – delivering client-facing services, building effective relationships with internal clients and collaborators, and leveraging business intelligence and analytics capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:Experience in a complex fundraising organization situated within the higher education or academic medicine sector. Familiarity with UNC-Chapel Hill. Familiarity with Blackbaud CRM. Knowledge of prospect development principles, practices, and tools of the trade. Experience with research, database, spreadsheet, query, statistical, data management, visualization, and survey tools. Curious and creative. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with various constituencies. Ability to collaborate with colleagues. Client service, problem-solving, and project management skills. Strategic and analytical thinker. Organized, with attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines, be self-motivated, work independently, show flexibility, and adapt to shifting priorities. Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers.
