Job Description:
The Bunker Hill Community College Performing Arts Department is seeking a dedicated and experienced Master Carpenter and Scenic Supervisor for its Spring 2025 black-box production. The successful candidate will play a vital role in developing the technical aspects of a small-scale department production. The BHCC Theatre Program produces actor-focused productions and strives to support this work with technical elements that are limited in scope but elevate the experience for all.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Theatre Program Coordinator to develop and execute technical vision for a black-box production.
- Tech week/Production dates: April 9-18, with a flexible schedule for work leading up to these dates.
- Construct/implement scenic and props elements as dictated by the designs.
- Schedule and supervise student tech crew involvement throughout production period.
- Maintain and oversee scene shop and technical equipment rental.
- Purchase/order building materials and manage a limited budget.
- Oversee load-in/strike/technical rehearsals to ensure the safety of everyone working on productions.
Requirements:
- BA/BFA in Theatre, or a related field. Plus, significant professional experience in technical theatre.
- Demonstrated expertise in scenic design and set construction.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Ability to teach and mentor students in a diverse and collaborative academic environment.
- Knowledge of industry safety standards and best practices.
Additional Information:
Salary: $2,000 for the duration of the assignment
Estimated time frame of the assignment: March 15 - May 30, 2025
Estimated Hours: approximately 80 hours for the duration of assignment.
